Chocolate Chilli Snowballs also know as this years Christmas edition of energy date balls. Last I went down another route with a mince pie rendition of date balls but this year we’re turning up the heat a little bit!
Happy 1st of December! Even though all seasons are for foodies, Christmas ’tis the season for sure. You know, these last few years I’ve been maintaining balance: health and indulgence and it’s worked out pretty well for me. Beats freaking out in the New Year! Being healthy during the holidays is a thing and that doesn’t mean missing out anything! This week I’ll be doing lots of chocolate recipes to prove this very point.
During December, I’m into chocolate and I’m into my spice cupboard and I’m into elevating food. All three of these things work beautifully together, which is why my chocolate often has a touch of salt, or a hint of cinnamon and in this case: chilli.
Fuel this year’s December workouts and shopping trips with these chocolate chilli snowballs and yes, I used like a tablespoon of icing sugar. Why? Because it’s Christmas and life is all about balance and it makes them look beautiful and taste lovely. If you’re being saintly though, you can leave it out (but they won’t look like chocolate snowballs, just saying!)
Enough chit chat, I’ll leave you with the recipe below.
- (Makes 8)
- 1/2 cup of nut butter
- 8 Medjool dates
- 1tbsp cacao powder
- 1/8tsp cayenne pepper
- 1tbsp icing sugar, to dust with
- Throw all the ingredients except the icing sugar into a blender and whizz together.
- Tip the lot into a bowl and knead into a sticky dough. Form eight bitesized balls.
- Dust with the icing sugar.
