Gotta Love A Classic

The smell of toast in the morning is something we’ve all grown up with. The perfect conduit to butter, jam, soft cheese, Marmite, marmalade, eggs, baked beans and the list goes on and on. It is a go-to for quick, easy and satisfying breakfasts.

These are things I wish I’d eaten on toast way back when! Better late than never though. Keep a stash of nut butters, avocados, organic eggs and bread made with alternate grains at home and you have easy breakfasts and snacks waiting in the wings.

In the past I’ve worked as crew, and in production for film, television and news channels, peanut butter and jam on whole wheat toast used to get me through gruelling days. Understanding what I do now about alkaline bodies, looking back, it probably wasn’t the best breakfast, but I did have the right idea. Switching up your grains, butters and jam for fruit could actually turn this childhood (and adulthood) favourite into a superfood breakfast that is refined sugar free.

Get more adventurous with your avocados on toast. I sprinkle mine with pumpkin seeds, sprouts, crushed nuts, nutritional yeast, add pinches of powerful spices like turmeric and cayenne to them.

Got some time on your hands in the morning? Lucky you! You can never go wrong with a poached egg, I love adding peppery rocket to them.
