Summer Lovin’

I often feel that my summer beauty routine is more about personal comfort than living up to the expectations of having the perfect summer everything. This year I’m keeping it simple with three amazing products that Deciem sent me.

Sana, Rach & Tan

My three best friends made sure that my understanding of beauty was from the inside out. They taught me that on most mornings (we all have our days) you’ll find beauty staring right back at you in the mirror, you wake up with it.

I think back to when I was a child and would see my Mum and then later my sisters and best friends, Sana, Rachael and Tanya (Panny) as they all created their own beauty. At times it was the lotions and potions, at other times it was the music or words they were sharing with me and sometimes it was laughing at a good (and usually inappropriate) joke together.

My sister and I would tear around the Isle of Man in Dad’s car listening to Tupac’s Do For Love, that was when summer officially arrived. We’d buy icy cold drinks from Marks and Spencers and wander the aisles of Boots looking for our summer fave, a serum to fire up our wavy locks. Then there was that year where Rach and I couldn’t decide whether the Tropicana colour on her toes was orange or red, it’s still something we debate while thinking about our Malibu days before we discovered St. Tropez. In Karachi, the first day of summer meant sleeveless shirts and fresh skin, with Panny and I hydrating ourselves thoroughly in an air conditioned haven away from the city’s heat sipping at a glass of sharbat.

For a decade and more I’ve turned to them for everything, including my lotions and potions, serums, hair brushes and eye liners. The stolen nail polishes from each other’s collections, fingernail marks left in each other’s lip balms, red kiss marks on each other’s cheeks, hair cuts (and disasters) have shaped my memory of beauty into something that has more to do with glowing inside out and everything to do with them.

Over the years, our experiences have seen us evolve from girls to women that now live miles away from each other but one thing has never changed, how comfortable I am in my own skin when with them. I always feel beautiful, they make me feel fabulous.

My approach to skin care products is the same, it’s about being comfortable in my own skin and feeling fabulous as opposed to looking a certain way. Here are three summer products from Deciem that I’d be happy to share with them!

Favourite summer beauty

I love a light moisturiser in the summer but they don’t always have enough elbow grease to do a job like a body butter. This light and refreshing mist from Hand Chemistry solves that problem for me in seconds. As well as absorbing into the skin immediately, it gives instant and long term hydration by nourishing below and above the surface of the skin with a low-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid in a base of purified mushroom and tamarind. The non-aerosol mist allows for easy use all over the body.

Smooth and silky skin go hand in hand with summer. This serum made with plant-based molecules visibly minimizes hair regrowth, reduces redness and irritation all while hydrating with Hyaluronic Acid! It glides on and only takes a few minutes to apply. Easy, peasy.

This creamy combination of Amazonian oils of açaí, palm and inca inchi from Grow Gorgeous smells divine, like you have a beauty salon buzzing around your hair. It is an absolute dream to apply to dry or towel dryed hair. Sun, sea and styling can play havoc with your hair in the summer making it more susceptible to split ends, so finding a product to protect your locks is really important. I’ve found this also helps to tame my mane and ease away the frizz.

I’m flattered and honoured! Also these products sound great! I’m a bit obsessed with hylaronic acid products myself right now…I guess we even share beauty secrets telepathically these days hey? Using Dr Sebagh’s facial serum with hylaronic acid at night before my moisuriser has been a dream for my skin!
Ps we could be forgiven for not knowing wether that nail polish was red or orange – you described it as Tropicana but it was called Chilli Pepper – see?? It gives nothing away!!!
